Because education can't stand/ to be left in the hands/ of those who just don't understand
"The 23-campus university has bristled at the requirement that it spend the money on instruction...
"'We have things that need to be done that aren't just about hiring faculty,' said Karen Zamarripa, Cal State's assistant vice chancellor for advocacy and state relations."
From the Contra Costa Times, "Higher-Education Leaders Split Over Proposed Oil Tax," by Matt Krupnick, February 9, 2010, p. 9A.
So, because the $1-2 Billion raised by AB 656 must all be spent on teaching, the Chancellor doesn't want the money that would have been raised by AB 656. This is the peculiar logic guiding the CSU leadership. What, after all, is the primary mission of the CSU's, if not teaching? Yet the Chancellor's Office refuses to abide by that self-evident proposition.
